Abu-Dhabi based renewable energy company Masdar has agreed to invest millions of dollars in Scotland on clean energy projects. The agreement with the Scottish government is the latest in the UAE’s efforts to diversify its energy portfolio and to reduce its dependence on an oil based economy. By 2020 Abu Dhabi plans to derive 7% of its energy from renewable sources. The partnership will combine Scotland’s growing expertise in wind and wave energy with the UAE’s experience in Solar energy. The Energy Technology Partnership, an alliance of 12 independent Scottish universities involved with energy research, will coordinate the initiative. This deal comes close upon a deal signed by Masdar and nation Tonga to build a solar energy plant on the Pacific island.
