Gulf State Economies Defy Slowdown

The outlook for economic growth is defying expectations.

While the economic growth in the United States and Europe appears stagnant at best, the outlook for emerging markets and the major oil producers remains positive. There are indications that the UAE is among those countries showing resilience and a degree of independence from trends in the larger world. In a June 17 report the IMF described the financial environment in the emerging and developing markets to be “quite accommodative.” Growth in Middle Eastern economies for the year ahead is projected at 3.6%. That contrasts with a rate of 1.9% forecast for the United States.
