Corporate Hopes Pinned to Arab Spring Govt Spending

A combination of the European debt crisis and the Arab Spring are posing interesting challenges and opportunities for world-wide brands. Bloomberg reports that companies like SAP are pushing for “Arab Spring sales” to make up for declines in Southern European markets. According to SAP’s head of operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, “There’s a lot of appetite from Africa and especially the Middle East, northern Africa region, regarding our public sector solutions.”  As government infrastructure redevelops in the Middle East, there will be a strong need for e-government solutions. Research firm IDC forecasts that government spending in the Middle East and Africa on information technology, excluding telecommunications, will rise almost 80 percent to $10.5 billion in 2015 from 2010.
